Michael Lytle

Michael Lytle (* April 1945 in Missouri ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( bass clarinet , clarinet , vocals ) and composer .

Michael Lytle grew up in Springfield, Missouri and took piano lessons as a child. In high school he played the clarinet; he also began to improvise on the piano. He then studied composition at the University of Iowa . He was influenced by the new music of Salvatore Martirano and William Parsons. After various day jobs as an auto mechanic and gardener, he lived in a commune in New England before returning to Iowa and recording his first album, Iowa Ear Music (1976) and a multimedia group. After a stay with Karl Berger in the Creative Music Studio inWoodstock lived in Europe before playing in New York in the 1980s in the avant rock ensemble Doctor Nerve , led by Nick Didkovsky . With George Cartwright and David Moss he formed the trio Meltable Snaps It , which recorded two albums. The occupation with electronic music followed . In the 1990s he worked with Hans Anliker , Hans Burgener and Martin Schütz ; He also belonged to the improvisation band Micro-East Collective and played a. a. with Mark Howell , John Zorn , Gerry Hemingway and Mark Dresser . In the field of jazz and improvisation music, he was involved in 32 recording sessions between 1967 and 1999.
