Life

After graduating from high school in Berlin in 1965 , Müller-Preußker studied physics at the Humboldt University in Berlin . With his dissertation Sum rules for partial wave amplitudes at finite energy in helicity formalism , he was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. PhD . 1972–1993 was Müller-Preußker assistant and then senior assistant in the research area Particles and Fields at the Humboldt University. In the meantime, he conducted research at the United Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna from 1978 to 1983 . He was denied a career in the GDR because he refused to join the SED .

After the peaceful revolution in the GDR in 1989, Müller-Preußker held a professorship for theoretical physics at Bielefeld University . In 1993 he was appointed university professor for the theory of elementary particles at Humboldt University. There he headed the Phenomenology / Lattice Theory working group until his retirement in 2011 and then as senior professor . He was in close contact with CERN in Geneva , the International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste , the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen and the Karl Franzens University in Graz .

During the restructuring of the Humboldt University, Müller-Preußker was Vice President of the University from 1994–1996 and Vice Dean for Teaching and Studies at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences I from 2002–2006 when the new Bachelor and Master courses were introduced. 2006–2010 he was Managing Director of the Institute for Physics at Humboldt University.

In 2011 Müller-Preußker was elected chairman designate of the Physikalische Gesellschaft zu Berlin (PGzB) , so that he was chairman from 2012-2014 and then deputy chairman. He won the Berlin representative office of Siemens AG for funding the Physics Study Prize of the PGzB for students with an excellent master’s degree. He also campaigned for a new PGzB award for enthusiastic physics teachers, which was donated in 2015. He was significantly involved in the reorganization of the archive of the PGzB in the Magnus House in Berlin , especially with regard to the unification of the German Physical Society and the PGzB with the Physical Society of the GDR .
