Michael Mustill, Baron Mustill

Michael John Mustill, Baron Mustill , Kt , PC , QC , FBA (born May 10, 1931 in Leeds , † April 24, 2015 in Pateley Bridge , North Yorkshire ) was a British lawyer and politician who has been a Life Peer member of the House of Lords was.

Life

After visiting the Oundle School made Mustill 1949-1951 his military service in the Royal Artillery and then a study of graduated law at St John's College of the University of Cambridge . After graduation in 1955, he received his license as a lawyer at the Bar Association ( Inns of Court ) of Gray's Inn . He then worked as a lawyer and was awarded the title of Crown Attorney in 1968 .

In 1972 he changed to the judge's service and worked as a reporter ( recorder ) at the Crown Court until 1978 . During this time he was also chairman of the civil service appeals tribunal from 1971 to 1978. In 1978 he was appointed judge at the High Court of Justice responsible for England and Wales , where he was judge of the Chamber for Civil Matters ( Queen's Bench Division ) until 1985 . Shortly after his appointment he was promoted to Knight Bachelor and since then has had the suffix "Sir".

1985 Sir Michael Mustill judge was ( Lord Justice of Appeal ) on the Wales and England competent Court of Appeal ( Court of Appeal (England and Wales) ) and worked there until 1,992th At the same time he became Privy Councilor in 1985 .

He then became Lord Judge on January 10, 1992 ( Lord of Appeal in Ordinary ) and as such, based on the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876, also a member of the House of Lords . He held the office of Lord Judge until his resignation in 1997. His successor as Lord Judge was then Mark Saville, Baron Saville of Newdigate , who was previously also a judge on the Court of Appeal.

Lord Mustill, who has been a Fellow of the British Academy since 1996 and a member of the Livery Company of the Worshipful Company of Grocers, has also served as Director of the City of London Disputes Round Table since 1998 . Since October 2012 he has been on leave of absence as a member of the House of Lords .
