life and work
Michael Perlick, son of the physician Eberhard Perlick , grew up as a Thomas student in Leipzig, and became known in the 1970s with copies of old masters . In the communist system of that time, these were sold "under the palm of the hand". As a young autodidact, he was supported by Prof. Rolf Kurth - at the time lecturer at the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Art - in creating his own works. Despite a highly developed style of painting, painting remained for Perlick only a very personal means of expression and a way of reducing stress.
He studied economics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with a diploma and worked in Leipzig until the fall of 1990, primarily in various areas of foreign trade. After an artistic break of around 25 years, Perlick - now living in Grömitz on the Baltic Sea - is painting again. We see both powerful, decorative works with expressionist use of color as well as pictures with a keen sense for natural light. His “hometown” Leipzig is always at the center of his works, but also increasingly Europe's attractive metropolis. This is how Silke Janßen characterizes: “The rhythm of the city of Leipzig, its liveliness becomes visible in the painting style. Color and light affect us, shine out of themselves. The subjectivity of the image becomes clear here, it is more than just a section, an image of a scene. The strong brushstrokes, the play of colors, the flow of forms - this is what Michael Perlick uses in his works to achieve precisely the effect mentioned for us. The reference to the style of Vincent van Gogh becomes clear. The rhythm of the city, the liveliness and the importance of the places for the people are expressed. Michael Perlick transfers this type of painting and the type of this perception to the present day, to the city of Leipzig. The transfer succeeds. "
