The Great Cascade (detail) in the Great Garden of Hanover-Herrenhausen

Michael Riggus was from 1678 and until 1681/1682 as a fountain master in the service of the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg . As such, he was listed in the Guelphs' files with an annual salary of 212 Thalers including his house rent in the residential city of Hanover . His tasks initially included supervising the water machine behind the lock , more precisely the private water machine of the engineer Etienne Maillet de Fourton on the line at the Clevertor . Riggus also provided the decorations for the grotto and the cascade in the Great Garden of Herrenhausen , which the Italian architect Girolamo Sartorio was involved in from 1676 to 1680 , as did Brand Westermann and the “Fontanizer” Marinus Cadart . The original equipment of the grotto by Riggus with shellwork and water features was lost; In their place are now the wall mosaics by the French-Swiss artist Niki de Saint Phalle in three rooms .

Riggus also created the decoration of the Parnassbrunnen in the Calenberger Neustadt , in whose construction the artists Girolamo Sartorio and Marinus Cadart were also involved.
