Michael Tolan

Michael Tolan (born Seymour Tuchow ; born November 27, 1925 in Detroit , Michigan ; † January 31, 2011 in Hudson , New York ) was an American film and stage actor .

Life

Michael Tolan grew up in Detroit, where he studied performing arts at Wayne State University . After graduating in 1947, he moved to New York City , where he was promoted by the well-known acting teacher, Stella Adler . Thanks to her, Tolan got a scholarship to Stanford University , where he studied acting. In 1951 he stood in front of the film camera for the first time in The Tiger at the side of Humphrey Bogart .

His career also took Tolan to Broadway in 1955 , where he played his first stage role in Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter . This was followed by four more theater engagements, including the comedy Romanoff and Juliet , in which Tolan played one of the leading roles from October 1957.

Michael Tolan's career in film and television was, with a few exceptions, mostly limited to supporting roles. In 1953 he stood in front of the camera as a Roman officer in Julius Caesar, among others . In 1965, The Greatest Story of All Time , he was engaged in the role of Lazarus , who was raised from the dead by Jesus . Other guest appearances on television series, such as Cobra, took over followed. He was one of those actors who got film roles into old age. In 1990 he stood alongside Harrison Ford in For Lack of Evidence in front of the camera and in 2007 - in his final role - in Seduction of a Stranger with Halle Berry .

At the same time, Tolan also made efforts to the theater. In 1964 he founded the American Place Theater in New York with the actors Wynn Handman and Sidney Lanier , which can now be found on 9th Avenue .

Michael Tolan was married twice. He has a daughter from his first marriage to actress Rosemary Forsyth , who was married from 1965 to 1975. He had two more daughters with his second wife, Carol Hume. Both marriages ended in divorce. Most recently he lived with his partner Donna Peck in Ancram , a suburb of Hudson (New York).

Michael Tolan died of heart and kidney failure in late January 2011, at the age of 85 .
