Life

Turner's work is often examined as an object of the hidden and only seemingly ordinary; he depicts objects and concepts in great detail that are usually polished to the end, as in Company Town (1991) and Kingsway (1995). Turner mostly varies his style and thereby enables a diverse intertextual approach to his works, for example in American Whiskey Bar (1997) and The Pornographer's Poem (1999).

Turner's work has been adapted for radio, stage, television and film, and has been translated into French, Russian and Korean. He won the Genie Award 1996 in the category Music / Original song to the BC Book Prizes belonging Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize in 2000 and rose in 1992 on the short list of the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize . In 2010, 8 × 10 was also on the shortlist for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize.

Michael Turner worked with video artist Stan Douglas on two experimental video films; Journey Into Fear ( Istanbul Biennale , 2001) and Suspiria ( Documenta11 , 2002) as well as a feature film with filmmaker Bruce LaBruce, Von Gloeden Project , based on the life and work of photographer Wilhelm von Gloeden . He was also commissioned to write a libretto for the Modern Baroque Opera Company, the subject of which was based on Wilhelm Busch's Max & Moritz .

In the late 1980s he was a member of a band called the Hard Rock Miners himself .

In 1996 Bruce McDonald directed a film whose plot was based on the Hard Core Logo ; McDonald also directed a live feature film at Turner's Roman American Whiskey Bar in 1998 as a drama produced and broadcast by Citytv. A film based on The Pornographer's Poem has been announced for 2005 .
