The Michaelskapelle stands above on the Lützenberg in Vlatten , a district of the town Heimbach in the district of Düren ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

A chapel from the 13th century is documented. Of this only the choir vault with old wall paintings remains . The ship and tower were built in 1212/13, while today's ship with the tower was rebuilt in a smaller version than the original chapel. There is still an old Romanesque altar in the choir . Inside there are relics of St. Ursula and St. Gereon, both city patrons of Cologne , kept. The Way of the Cross inside the church was consecrated on September 26, 1915. In the tower hangs a bell with the inscriptionI call Sanctus Michiel, Gregorius van Trier gous me in 1499 .

The Michaelskapelle, named after the Archangel Michael , has been entered in the list of architectural monuments in Heimbach (Eifel) since October 1st, 1987 under number 12. The description of the monument reads:

"15. Century, reconstruction 1912/14 (Arch. Scheidegen); 1-aisled hall building with retracted polygonal choir and west tower offset to the side from the central axis, plastered sandstone building , small vestibule in the west, net vault, probably late 19th century, late medieval vaulting of the apse with painting. "
