Michel Renauld

Michel Reneauld (born June 5, 1760 in Sarrelouis , France ; † September 2, 1826 in Saarlouis , now Rhine Province , Prussia) was a Général de division under Napoleon , then Maire (mayor) of Sarrelouis . After the attack on Prussia and renaming in Saarlouis, he held the office of Lord Mayor until his death.

Life

Michel was born the son of Jean Renauld and Madeleine Kreutzer. He completed his compulsory schooling in the local Augustinian college .

Military career

In 1781, at the age of 21, he joined the Régiment de Nassau of infantry . There he was a member of the army on the left bank of the Rhine under Generals Ney , Moreau and Kléber . In 1784 he acquired the rank of Adjudant-sous-Officier , in 1785 he was promoted to Sous-lieutenant and in 1792 to captain , in 1793 he became Adjutant of General Schauenburg and was promoted to this rank himself in 1794. In the Mainz lines (1794–1795) he stood with 8,200 men near Gonsenheim for the siege of the Mainz fortress . In 1796 he married Marie Françoise Guth from Saint-Avold . In 1814 he was awarded the Order of the Lily and the Cross of the Legion of Honor .

mayor

When the French fortress of Mainz became Prussian after the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 , he entered Prussian civil service. Minister Simon appointed him Lord Mayor of Saarlouis. His administration was shaped by fighting poverty and the city's debt. In 1820 he received from the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. the Order of the Red Eagle 3rd class.

Death and aftermath

Renauld died during his tenure on September 2, 1826 in Saarlouis. His grave is in the city's old cemetery .

A street in Saarlouis is named after him. Parts of his estate were discovered in Berlin in 2007.
