Michel Rodange

Michel Rodange (born January 3, 1827 in Waldbillig , Luxembourg ; † August 27, 1876 in Clausen, Luxembourg City ) was a Luxembourgish writer .

Michel Rodange is best known as the author of "Renert", an adaptation of Goethe's Reineke Fuchs in Luxembourgish .

Michel Rodange was a teacher from 1845, first in Steinsel , then in Fels . His first poems in German appeared in the Diekircher newspaper Der Wächter an der Sauer . In 1854 he married Magdalena Leysen, with whom he had ten children, six of whom died at a young age.

From 1859 Michel Rodange worked as a cantonal overseer for road construction work in Echternach , Koerich and Wiltz . He began to deal seriously with German, French and Greek literature . In 1872 his main work Renert or de Fuuss appeared on the tailcoat an a Ma'nsgrëßt , of which the public initially hardly noticed .

In 1873 Michel Rodange took leave from civil service to help build the railway along the Sauer . During this time he developed a stomach ulcer . He was transferred to Luxembourg City , where he supervised the demolition of the fortifications. The family lived in the suburb of Clausen, where Michel Rodange died in 1876 of complications from his stomach ailment.
