Michel Johannes "Mies" Stolker (born September 29, 1933 in Zuilen , now Utrecht , † May 28, 2018 ) was a Dutch cyclist.

Career

Michel Stolker was a professional cyclist from 1956 to 1966. From 1960 to 1963 he rode in a team with five-time Tour winner Jacques Anquetil . He competed in the Tour de France three times - in 1956 , 1957 and 1962 - and his best place was 33rd in 1962. In the same year he finished seventh in the overall ranking of the Vuelta a España , two years later he won a stage in Spain - Tour. In 1961 he was named Dutch cyclist of the year .

Until 2015, Stolker was the only one from Utrecht to take part in the Tour de France . In an interview, the now 81-year-old reported that he was instigated by Anquetil in 1962 to dope himself with pills. However, his true doping was his passion for cycling.

After finishing his cycling career, Stolker opened a shop for batteries and car radios, among other things. Stolker was married three times, twice to the same woman. His relationships with women were disrupted by competitive sport, he said in an interview. He was recently undergoing therapy through which he is still developing. He tries to become a better person every day.
