Sway is a presentation - Web application and part of the Microsoft Office series. Sway enables users to process text and media into a presentation.

functionality

Text and media can be inserted from the user's computer or from the Internet from sites such as Bing , Microsoft OneDrive , YouTube , and Facebook . A Sway presentation can be viewed and edited using a web browser via a web application in Microsoft Office Online or Windows 10 . The app for iOS was discontinued, an app for Android was never published despite the announcement.

A Sway presentation is stored on Microsoft's servers and linked to the Microsoft account of the creator. Since the data is not encrypted and stored on servers outside the EU , the use of the service is at least questionable in terms of data protection law . Other users only need the link for the Sway presentation to see it.

history

On October 1, 2014, a beta version of Sway was announced, to which testers were invited. The app for iOS was first released as a preview version in New Zealand on October 31, 2014. Since January 28, 2015, users have been able to incorporate embedded code from services such as SoundCloud and Vine into presentations. Sway has been publicly available since June 6, 2015. Microsoft announced that no Microsoft Office 365 subscription is required to use Sway.

On October 19, 2018, the iOS app was removed from the App Store . An app for Android was never released. Microsoft recommends that users switch to the web version of Sway.
