history

Bad Aibling station in Mietraching

Mietraching was already settled in the Bavarian period when the noble Muotrich settled there. The place was first mentioned in a document on the court day in Aibling in 804 . At that time, a legal dispute about the church was decided in favor of the Chiemsee Abbey , after Tassilo had previously withdrawn it from the Freising Court Abbey . The Mietrachinger Church has been mentioned as a subsidiary of the parish of Aibling since 1315; she already had her own funeral right .

In the late Middle Ages, Mietraching had its own main team in the Aibling office in the Aibling district court , which also included the towns of Markfeld (two properties) and Thürham (one property). In 1818, Mietraching became a separate municipality as a result of the Bavarian administrative reform , to which the districts of Adlfurt, Harthausen, Lohholz, Markfeld, Thürham, Unterheufeld, Zell and the area of the later town of Kolbermoor , which was spun off on August 27, 1863, belonged.

In the 1930s, on the orders of the NS government, a larger area was again spun off and incorporated into the city of Bad Aibling. For this reason, the Bad Aibling air base was built in preparation for the Second World War , which was occupied by US troops after the war and later expanded to become the Bad Aibling station , which until 2004 was and partly in American hands as a monitoring base for the Echelon system was also used by the Federal Intelligence Service and by British secret services.

The autonomy of the municipality of Mietraching lasted until it was incorporated into the town of Bad Aibling , which came into force on May 1, 1978. The place has retained a certain degree of independence to this day.

The zero-energy city of Mietraching was built on the site of the former Bad Aibling Station in 2010 . The Echelon Festival also takes place there every year . A branch of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) is housed in the adjacent Mangfall barracks .
