Tassilo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tassilo - also written Thassilo - is a male given name of West Germanic origin, which is based on a diminutive of the name Tasso / Tazzo (example of the Latin diminutive form -illus, -illa, -illum adopted as -ilo / -ili into Old High German ).

Tasso / Tazzo, in turn, is an abbreviation of Taginbert (a name also used in the short form Tago and the diminutive form Tagino). The name Taginbert is of West Germanic origin and means "shiny like the day" or is composed of Celtic dago (good) and Old High German beraht (shiny). In the softer Franconian way of speaking, these names are also recorded as Datzo / Dazzo or Dagobert . Well-known keywords that go back to these names are Tagino von Magdeburg , the surnames Datzmann or Tatzmann or the Austrian health resort Tatzmannsdorf . Another explanation by Tasso can be found as a derivation from dahs (= badger) via Middle Latin taxus . The animal name would then have been formed analogously to the first names with Bear (Bernhard) and Wolf (Wolfgang).
