Mike Doughty (* 10. June 1970 in Fort Knox , Kentucky as Michael Doughty ) is an American singer and songwriter. His most famous songs are "Looking at the World from the Bottom of a Well" and "I Hear the Bells", which were used in well-known television programs (including Grey's Anatomy and Veronica Mars ).

biography

Doughty grew up in a military family. Because of this, he traveled extensively in the US and Europe in his childhood. He spent his youth at the United States Military Academy at West Point . He later attended Bard College at Simon's Rock in the small town of Great Barrington , Massachusetts , but then moved to New York and studied poetry at the New School University.

Music career

While he was working at the New York club Knitting Factory in the early 1990s , he met the musicians with whom he founded the experimental band Soul Coughing in 1992 . In 2000, after an internal dispute and Doughty's heroin addiction, the band split up. However, he managed to overcome his heroin addiction. A short time later he began touring North America with his acoustic album Skittish, which was recorded in 1996 (in just one day) . He performed as a solo artist and also took care of selling the CDs after the concerts. Two other albums - Smofe + Smang and Rockity Roll - were released in 2002 and 2003 respectively. The LP Haughty Melodic , released in 2005, was recorded and produced by Dan Wilson, the singer and guitarist of the band Semisonic over a period of two years. The album was then released on Dave Matthews ' label "ATO Records", where the follow-up album Golden Delicious was released in February 2008. With the song Looking at the World from the Bottom of a Well , for which a music video was also shot, Doughty et al. a. on the Late Show with David Letterman .
