Valentinas Mikelėnas

Valentinas Mikelėnas (born April 6, 1958 in Smilgiai , Biržai district ) is a Lithuanian lawyer and civil lawyer , professor of private, civil procedural and family law at Vilnius University (VU), former judge of the Supreme Court of Lithuania , head of the working group on the civil code of Lithuania .

Life

In 1982 Valentinas Mikelėnas graduated from the law faculty of the VU and then worked as an aspirant and assistant. On 26 October 1986 he received his doctorate from the Moscow State University in Moscow on the topic "Peculiarities of civil cases concerning the trial of the civil certifications" ( lit . Civilinių bylų dėl civilinės bukles Aktu įrašų nuginčijimo ypatumai ). Valentinas Mikelėnas worked from 1990 to 1995 as a lecturer, faculty dean and from 1992 to 2003 head of the professorship for civil and civil procedural law at VU. On September 6, 1995 , Valentinas Mikelėnas completed her habilitation on "Problems of civil liability: aspects of comparative law " (lit. Civilinės atsakomybės problemos: lyginamieji aspektai ).

In 1997 he was admitted to the bar and worked in the practice. After that he was appointed a judge and from 1997 to 2006 worked at the Supreme Court . Since June 23, 2006, Valentinas Mikelėnas has again been a lawyer at the Law Firm of Commercial Law "Jurevičius, Balčiūnas ir Bartkus ". Mikelėnas is a founding member of the European Law Institute , a non-profit organization devoted to legal research and the improvement of European law with the aim of constructively accompanying European integration in the field of European law.

Since 2002 he has been chairman of the editorial board of the legal journal “ Justitia ”. He was a member of the Working Group of the Commercial Code of the Republic of Lithuania .
