Mikel Lasa Goikoetxea (born September 9, 1971 in Legorreta ) is a former Spanish football player .
Career
society
Mikel Lasa was trained at Real Sociedad's youth academy and was considered a great talent. He went through all the junior national teams in his home country and made his debut under coach John Toshack at the age of 17 in the Primera División .
For the 1991/92 season Lasa moved to the Spanish record champions Real Madrid to replace Rafael Gordillo in the long term . After initial difficulties, he developed into a regular player at the capital club. In 1992/93 he won the Spanish Cup with Real Madrid and scored the decisive 2-0 in the final against Real Saragossa . In the 1994/95 season he played 25 league games and won the Spanish championship. After Roberto Carlos signed in 1996, Lasa was permanently ousted from the regular lineup.
For the 1997/98 season , Lasa therefore joined the league rivals Athletic Bilbao , with whom he immediately finished second in the championship and thus qualified for the 1998/99 UEFA Champions League . In the following three years, however, it was hardly used in Bilbao either. In 2001 he moved to the second division Real Murcia , with whom he rose to the Primera División in the 2002/03 season . Although he had a large share of this success with 31 missions, he left the club at the end of the season and played for another year for the second division Ciudad de Murcia, which was based in the same city .
National team
Mikel Lasa made 54 international appearances for the Spanish junior national teams. In 1988 he became European champion with the U-16 selection , in 1992 he won the gold medal with the Olympic selection and in 1994 he achieved third place at the U-21 European Championship with the U-21 selection . After he had prevailed at Real Madrid, he made his debut on February 24, 1993 in the World Cup qualifier against Lithuania in the senior team . He played his second and last international match against Lithuania again in June of the same year.
