content
This was Mitchell's first tour with a backing band. Before that she had mostly performed solo. She hired the existing jazz fusion band LA Express , whose members had already played Court and Spark on their previous studio album , the biggest commercial success of their career to date. The song Big Yellow Taxi from this live album was released as a single and became their fourth Top 40 single.
The album contains many of their well-known songs, but only one track from their latest album and neither of the two hit singles Help Me and Free Man in Paris . All but two of the songs were recorded from August 14-17, 1974 at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles . Cactus Tree was recorded at the Los Angeles Music Center on March 4th and Real Good for Free on March 2nd at the Berkeley Community Theater . The cover picture shows the Pine Knob Music Theater in Clarkston .
