The minusinsk hollow ( Russian Минусинская котловина, Хакасско-Минусинская котловина ) represents the southern part of the weitläufigeren Minusinsk depression is and extends in the southern Russian region of Krasnoyarsk and Khakassia between the mountain ranges of the South Siberian mountains .

The basin landscape is framed in the south by the West Sayan , in the west by the Abakan Mountains and in the north by the foothills of the Kuznetsk Alatau and in the east by the East Sayan. The relief of the basin corresponds mainly to a wavy, ribbed plain, which is structured by valleys. The height varies from 200 to 700  m . The Minussinsk Basin is covered by an agriculturally used steppe landscape . There are coal deposits .

The Yenisei flows through the basin in a northerly direction. Other significant rivers in the basin are the Abakan , Oja and Tuba .

Larger cities are Abakan , Minussinsk and Chernogorsk .

history

Before they founded their empire in 840 , the Yenisei Kyrgyz lived in the Minussinsk Basin and the depression to the north . After the decline in 924 due to the attack by the Kitan , many moved back here.
