Miran Schrott (born December 26, 1972 in Ortisei in Val Gardena , Italy ; † January 14, 1992 in Chamonix , France ) was an Italian ice hockey player .
Career
Miran Schrott grew up in Ortisei in Val Gardena and played from 1990 to the beginning of 1992 for HC Val Gardena in Serie B , the second highest division in Italy. He came as a defender on 46 missions, where he also scored four goals and twelve assists. Internationally, he was a participant in the 1990 European Junior Championships , where Italy reached second place in Group B. At the Junior World Championships in 1991 he again reached second place in the C group with the team. At the Junior World Cup in 1992 , Italy finally made it to the B group by winning the C group, with Miran Schrott being named the best defender in the group.

Miran Schrott died as a result of an argument during a league game against HC Courmaosta when his opponent Jim Boni hit him on the chest after a fight with a hockey stick. Scrap fell instantly to the ground and was tended to the ice before being taken to a hospital in Chamonix in ten to fifteen minutes. There he died of cardiac arrest due to a reduced aorta .
Jim Boni was charged under Italian law and sentenced in February 1994 to one year suspended prison sentence for negligent homicide ( Omicidio colposo ).
