Mircea Irimescu (born May 13, 1959 in Craiova ) is a former Romanian football player .

Career

society

Midfielder Irimescu stood from the 1976/77 season to the 1989/90 season in the ranks of the Romanian first division club Universitatea Craiova . During this period he completed 318 first division games and scored 69 goals. In 1980 and 1981 his team became Romanian champions. 1977 , 1978 each without his participation in the final and in 1981 and 1983 with Irimescu the winning final "Elf" one won the national cup. In 1985 they lost there in the final. In 1983, his club also advanced to the UEFA Cup semi-finals. Another season at Electroputere Craiova followed in 1990/91 . In the 1991/92 season he is said to have been in the squad of the then German league club Sportfreunde Siegen . He himself told Gazeta de Sud in January 2009 how he ended up playing football after winning, but without mentioning a club name. The contact was made in the training camp in Turkey. He felt very comfortable in Siegen, but did not extend his engagement in order to return to Romania with his family and for his coaching training.

National team

Irimescu also played in the Romanian senior team . He made his debut on September 7, 1983 in the international friendly against Poland with a starting eleven in the national selection. He contributed a goal to the 2-2 final result. He was part of the squad at the European Championships in France in 1984 and came to a use in the group game against Portugal during the tournament . He also ran on September 12, 1984 against Northern Ireland and on April 3, 1985 against Turkey in the World Cup qualification for the 1986 World Cup . He didn't score a goal. The game against Turkey was also the last of his nine international games in which he scored two goals.

Trainer

After the playing career, Irimescu took up the career as a coach. He appeared in the team with his former teammate Sorin Cârțu from 2008 at the latest , with Cârțu mostly working as head coach and Irimescu as cotrainer. At the end of the 2007/08 season, he was a substitute for Cârțu and was responsible for coaching Dacia Mioveni at several games . He was then again assistant to Cârțu at Pandurii Târgu Jiu . In October 2009 both and goalkeeping coach Silviu Lung dissolved their contracts due to disagreements with the club's management, but all three came back on March 18, only to be relieved of their duties on May 11, 2010. In September 2010 Cârțu took over the CFR Cluj from Andrea Mandorlini again with the two co-trainers Irimescu and Lung . In 2012, Cârțu went to the second division ALRO Slatina as technical director and Irimescu as head coach during the season . Here Irimescu suffered a minor heart attack on April 21, 2012 before the game against CS Luceafărul Oradea . Again as cotrainer of Cârțu Irimescu worked at FC Brașov from October 2012. From April to June 2013 Cârțu, Irimescu and Adrian Popescu were briefly responsible at CSMS Iași . Since September 3, 2014, Irimescu has been Emil Săndoi’s cotrainer at CS Universitatea Craiova , which was founded in 2013 ; Cârțu is the technical director there.
