M'Bami's career began at the age of 15 in his home country of Cameroon with Dynamo FC Douala . He played there between 1998 and 2000 before the first European clubs noticed him. Finally, he decided to move to France for the CS Sedan . After some initial problems, he settled in and was able to play 69 games in three years, but did not score a goal.

For the 2003/04 season he came to an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain and moved to the capital's club for 3 million euros. In his three years with the Parisians he was an important pillar of the team, appeared a total of 91 times for the blue-reds and was able to score his first Ligue 1 goal. Especially in his first season he formed a strong midfield association with Lorik Cana , and they reached second place in the league. In addition to this success, the French Cup was won. In the following season M'Bami struggled with injuries and could not match the good performance of the previous year. He broke his fibula in the Champions League game against CSKA Moscow in December 2004 and had to fight for a long time to make his comeback. In his last year for PSG, he was able to win the French Cup again.

In the summer of 2006 he moved to Marseille for an unknown transfer . There he met Lorik Cana again, who had already switched to OM a year earlier, and quickly became a top performer. His first season with I'Oheme was a successful year and he was able to celebrate the entry into the cup final and the runner-up championship with the southern French, the following year it was only enough to place 3.

This contract expired in summer 2009. Since then, M'Bami took part in various trial training sessions at English clubs, and on October 1, 2009, it was announced that he was moving to the Spanish first division club UD Almería . There he was given a one-year contract with the option of two more years.

In July 2011, M'Bami moved to China, to Dalian Aerbin , but was loaned out directly to Changchun Yatai FC . In July 2012 he then moved to the Saudi Arabian association Al-Ittihad . He played for Millonarios FC in Colombia for the first half of 2014 and then moved to AC Le Havre in the summer .

He left the club in 2016 and has not been listed as a player at any other club since then.

National team

As a young player, M'Bami passed through the various junior teams in Cameroon and demonstrated his talent. In 2000 he was appointed for the first time for the senior team in his home country and was able to celebrate winning the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney with it. During the Confederation Cup 2003 he reached the final with Cameroon and was in the squad of the team that participated in the 2004 African Cup of Nations in Tunisia . However , his team was unable to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany and they only ended up in second place behind Ivory Coast in the qualifying round .
