Sardar Mohammed Ayub Khan ( Pashtun محمد ايوب خان Mohammad Ayub Chan , * 1857 in Kabul ; † April 7, 1914 in Lahore ) was interim regent of Afghanistan in 1880, from 1880 to 1881 emir of Herat and in 1881 emir of Kandahar . He was the fifth son of Emir Schir Ali and brother of the Emir Mohammed Yakub Khan, who ruled from February to October 1879 .

Life

He became famous for his victory over a British army in the "Second Battle of Maiwand " on July 27, 1880 during the Second British-Afghan War . After his defeat in the " Battle of Kandahar " on September 1, 1880, Abdur Rahman Khan succeeded him as the new emir . Mohammed Ayub Khan went into exile in Persia and later to India , where he died in 1914. He was buried in Peshawar (in today's Pakistan), where the Afghan King Habibullah Khan , the son of Abdur Rahman, had a mausoleum built for him.
