Momodou LK Sanneh (* 1942 in Batelling ) is a Gambian politician .

Momodou LK Sanneh was born in Bateling in the Kiang West district in the Lower River Region in 1942. He attended the Dumbutu elementary school , the Dumbuto Lower Basic school , from 1949 to 1956 . He later switched to the Kiaf Lower Basic School. From 1959 to 1964 he attended Crab Island Secondary School in Bathurst (now Banjul ). After finishing school, he first joined the police force .

Between 1972 and 1976 Sanneh was employed by the former Gambia Utilities Cooperation (now NAWEC ), then as office manager for the Nigerian High Commissioner until 1998.

Sanneh's political activity began when he ran as an independent candidate in the 1966 parliamentary election in the Western Kiang constituency in the Mansakonko Administrative Area . With 10.52% of the vote, he could not win the constituency, he was defeated by his opponent Amang S. Kanyi (PPP). In the election to parliament in 1972 he ran again as an independent candidate in the same constituency. With 39.71% of the vote he could not win the constituency again, he was defeated by his opponent Howsoon O. Semega-Janneh (PPP). After that, Sanneh joined the National Convention Party (NCP). In the following election to parliament in 1977 he ran again against Semega-Janneh in the same constituency. With 41.95% of the vote he was again defeated by Howsoon O. Semega-Janneh.

In the 2007 parliamentary election as a candidate for the United Democratic Party (UDP) in the constituency of Kiang West . With 47.69% of the vote, he was able to win the constituency in front of Khalifa Kambi (APRC). He was elected spokesman for the minority group ( English Minority Leader ) for this legislative period . At the same time he was a nominated member of the parliament of the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS; Economic Community of West African States) in this legislative period .

In the parliamentary elections in 2012 , the opposition parties boycotted the election, so that the constituency was taken unopposed by Yahya Dibba (APRC). In July 2016, he and 19 other UDP members were arrested for taking part in a street protest against Jammeh's regime. You were sentenced to three years in prison on July 20th.

After the change of government in 2016, Adama Barrow released all political prisoners. Sanneh did not run for the 2017 general election, but was one of the five Members of Parliament appointed by President Barrow after the election. Sanneh took on the role of Deputy Speaker of Parliament, alongside Speaker of Parliament Mariam Jack-Denton .
