The Momox GmbH is in 2006 Berlin based Re-commerce -Unternehmen for the purchase and sale of used books and media. At the beginning of 2006, Momox was the first German company for re-commerce.

history

Christian Wegner from Fürstenwalde / Spree started out of unemployment in 2004 to implement his business idea, inspired by the flea market , with 1500 euros start-up capital and 20 m² of storage space as an I-AG . After quick initial success on the eBay and Amazon platforms, a start-up company was founded in May 2006 with Momox GmbH and momox.de developed its own purchasing platform for books , CDs and DVDs . The online shop Medimops followed in 2007 . Momox is thus one of the industry pioneers.

In 2010, other investors joined the company, including the venture capital investor Acton Capital Partners from Munich . Company founder Wegner reduced his stake to 67 percent. From 2011 the company became internationally active in France , Austria and Great Britain . In the same year, the storage capacities were expanded with two new logistics centers in Leipzig and Neuenhagen near Berlin in addition to the headquarters in Berlin and a pick-up service was offered.

In 2013 Christian Wegner handed over his position as board member to Heiner Kroke and took care of the expansion of the business model for the fashion sector. In the following year Momox opened the online platform ubup.com (“used but precious”), an online shop for buying and selling branded clothing . Due to the increased international activity in the media sector and the accelerated growth in the trade in branded clothing, sales grew from 150 million euros in 2016 to 200 million euros in 2018 and 250 million euros in 2019.

At the end of 2018, the Norwegian private equity company Verdane Capital made a large investment .

Christian Wegner left the company he founded in August 2019 for previously unpublished reasons. In October 2019 Wegner surprisingly left his company completely and sold his shares to the new majority owner Verdane Capital from Norway.
