history

Launch of the Mona's Queen

The Mona's Queen was built under hull number 533 at the Ailsa Shipbuilding Company in Troon and was launched on December 21, 1971. After its delivery to the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, the ship began the ferry service between Douglas and Dublin in June 1972. The Mona's Queen was already the fifth ship of the shipping company with this name.

In September 1989, the Mona's Queen was chartered to the British Sealink British Rail for several crossings from Portsmouth and Weymouth to Cherbourg . With the exception of these crossings, the ship stayed on the same route for more than twenty years.

In December 1995 the Mona's Queen went to the Philippine Manila-Banton-Romblon-San Agustin Shipping Lines and was renamed Mary the Queen under the flag of Honduras . After being converted for a passenger capacity of up to 3,000 people, the ship began service between Manila and Boracay in 1996 . Later it switched to the route from Manila Banton via Romblon to San Agustin .

In 2000 the flag of Mary the Queen was changed to the Philippines with Manila as her home port. On February 9, 2004, a fire broke out on board the ship during a crossing from San Agustin to Manila off the island of Sibuyan .

After four more years of service in the Philippines, the Mary the Queen was retired in 2008. The ship was sold for demolition in Alang, India, where it was scrapped on September 1, 2008 after 36 years of service.

The Mona's Queen was with the Lady of man a four-year younger sister ship , the Man Steam Packet Company remained until 2005 for the Isle of deployed and then in Greece was in use before it in the 2011 Turkey was scrapped.
