The Mons-Tabor-Gymnasium (MTG) is a state high school in the district town of Montabaur sponsored by the Westerwaldkreis .

history

Forerunner of today's high school

14th to 18th century

At first there was a Latin school in the city of Montabaur , which as a type in many places of the German Empire formed the starting point for a later city high school; the student was tutored by clergymen. The language of instruction was Latin and the lessons lasted the entire day, only interrupted by a long service and periods of independent study and practice. In the 16th and 18th centuries, this Latin school was expanded and professionalized largely according to the ideas of the time. In this way, Fathers of the Franciscan Order could be won as teachers, whose maintenance the city of Montabaur had to ensure. Financial bottlenecks, which no longer allowed the city to provide the salaries for the teachers, led to the departure of the Franciscans and thus indirectly to the end of school in this form.

1806-1817

The first actual “grammar school”, the aim of which was primarily preparation and training for civil service, was built as a school experiment; it lasted only eleven years. One can see this school experiment as an anticipation of a new epoch that was ushered in by Napoleon's expansion policy and the restoration that followed. Montabaur belonged to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss to Nassau territory and also in the installation of such a school is showing the state penetration of the new territorial lord the the Montabaurer citizens transported only too happy by offering to fund the new school. Thus, they believed they would secure a better position, especially in competition with the nearby cities of Limburg and Ehrenbreitstein.

1868-1871

From the Nassau school experiment, a secondary school of the Nassau type developed, which primarily had the job description of the merchant in mind. A Progymnasium grew out of this basis and was set up in 1870 in order to later become a full high school. Since they were looking for a strong name for the proud, new grammar school and Bad Ems was a popular spa stay by Kaiser Wilhelm I in the immediate vicinity, the idea came about to ask the Kaiser himself for his patronage, which also complied with this request.

The foundation of today's grammar school

The Mons-Tabor-Gymnasium was founded in 1871 under the name "Kaiser-Wilhelms-Gymnasium" and carried this name up to the time of National Socialism . In 1938 it was given the name "Kaiser Wilhelm School, Municipal High School for Boys, Montabaur", which in turn was abolished in 1945. In 1952 it got a new name: "Old and New Language High School Montabaur" which in 1967 was expanded into "State Old Language-New Language and Mathematical-Natural Science High School Montabaur". In 1978 it was renamed "Mons-Tabor-Gymnasium Montabaur". With the completion of the new building in 2004, the MTG received eight new classrooms and an auditorium. In 2008 the second new building was completed. a. Has 3 new computer rooms. The extensive renovation of the school building was largely completed in March 2011, so that the school has new classrooms as well as a modern administration wing. "In 2016, a full-day school was added.

In the lower level, two additional hours of English are taught per week in which the students learn special technical vocabulary; in the intermediate level, two thirds of the geography and history subjects are taught in English - in the upper level there is also social studies. In the MSS , English replaces the so-called secondary subject bilingually .

School without racism

The MTG has been integrated into the school network Schools Without Racism since March 2012 .

Support association

There is a support association which former students, former teachers and interested parties can join as members. The sponsoring association supports the school in organizational and financial terms, in particular for events or purchases that the school could not carry out on its own. Every five years, the so-called “Study Remembrance Festival” takes place for all members of the association, which primarily serves to maintain old school contacts.
