The Mont St Michel is a Ro-Ro - ferry of the French shipping company Brittany Ferries , on the route between Portsmouth and Caen is used.
history
The ship was built under the hull number 985 at the Van der Giessen-De Noord shipyard. The ship's design is based on Normandie, which was also built for Brittany Ferries by Kvaener Masa Yards in the early 1990s . The Finnish company Deltamarin was involved in both ship designs. The keel was laid on June 7, 2001, the launch on March 16, 2002. The ship was completed on December 9, 2002, and handed over to the shipping company on December 11, 2002. It was put into service on December 20, 2002.
The ship is named after the island of Mont Saint-Michel .
Technical specifications
The drive of the vessel by four four-stroke - six cylinder - diesel engines of the manufacturer Caterpillar (type: 6M43) with 5,400 kW power , which gearbox to two variable pitch act. The ship reaches a speed of 22 knots . The ship is equipped with two bow thrusters , each with an output of 1,500 kW.
For the power supply are two wave generators , each with 1,600 kW (2000 kVA apparent power ) and three Wärtsilä - diesel generators , each with 1,560 kW (1,950 kVA apparent power) available.
At the end of 2015, the ship was equipped with a gas scrubber for exhaust gas desulfurization at the Spanish shipyard Astilleros de Santander .
There is space for 2,200 passengers on board. The ship has 224 passenger cabins with a total of 774 beds. In addition, 15 cots are available, which can be used in the cabins if necessary. In addition to the cabins, there are 419 recliners available. The passenger cabins are on decks 7 and 9, and the recliners are on deck 7. Passenger facilities are located on decks 7-10, including restaurants and bars, cinemas and shops. There is a sun deck on each of decks 7, 8 and 9.
There is space for 800 cars or 118 trucks on three ro-ro decks with 2,245 lane meters . The ro-ro decks, which are located on decks 1, 3 and 5, can be reached via a bow and stern ramp and connected to one another in the ship by ramps. In addition to the fixed ro-ro decks, the ship is equipped with a height-adjustable deck with a further 1,180 gauge meters. In front of the bow ramp there is a laterally opening bow hatch . There is also a fixed ramp on the forecastle, which can be used via a shore-side ramp. A bulkhead closes the ro-ro deck behind. In the rearmost area of the ship, the ro-ro deck on deck 5 turns into an open deck. Deck 3 can be reached directly via the bow and stern ramps, deck 5 via landside ramps.
