particularities | highest point in the Swiss Jura |
The Mont Tendre is a mountain peak in the Vaud Jura in western Switzerland , about 15 km northwest of Morges . At 1679 m above sea level M. the Mont Tendre is the highest point in the Swiss Jura and one of the highest in the entire Jura Mountains. Only the peaks of the Crêt de la Neige chain in France still tower about 40 meters above it.
The broad crest of Mont Tendre is part of the south-eastern, the Swiss Plateau closest chain of the Jura folds . It is bounded by the Col du Marchairuz in the southwest, the high valley Vallée de Joux in the northwest, the Col du Mollendruz in the northeast and the Jura foot plain belonging to the Central Plateau in the southeast. The Mont Tendre consists of several peaks, all of which reach at least 1600 meters. Upstream in the south, directly above the town of Bière , is the Crêt de Mondisé ( 1525 m above sea level ). In the southwest, beyond the Col du Marchairuz , the ridge continues in the Crêt de la Neuve and Mont Pelé .
The 800 meter high, steep southeast slope of Mont Tendre is densely forested and is also known as the Côte de Bière . On the ridge there are loose forests, interspersed with Jura pastures with solitary spruce trees . The tree line is about 1,600 meters. The sinkholes and cart fields in the summit area are characteristic of the limestone subsoil of the Jura .
When the weather is fine and clear, Mont Tendre offers a view of Lake Geneva and the Savoy , Valais and Bernese Alps .
