The Montabaur Fighting Farmers are a registered association for American Football and Flag Football in Montabaur .

history

The 1st American Football Club Montabaur Fighting Farmers 1992 e. V., an independent and non-profit sports club, was founded in 1992 in Montabaur (Westerwald) and remains unchanged in its original form. The aim of the association is to promote the sport of American football in the junior and senior sector with participation in official game operations.

In 1993 the game was started in the Landesliga Mitte and finished as runner-up. Another two years were played in the regional league center and the club was built up athletically and structurally. With the runner-up in 1995 the promotion to the league and 1997 the runner-up took place. In the following five years, the Fighting Farmers as a club did not take part in the game itself, but numerous players were distributed in other clubs up to the GFL .

In 2002 it would have been deleted from the register of associations, but some of the original members reunited in the Westerwald. Training was started under Head Coach Hans Juhnke and in 2003 the Fighting Farmers took part in the game. With the championship in the regional league in 2003, the promotion to the league took place. There followed the runner-up in 2005 and the rise in 2006 as champions of the league.

The 2007 season in the Middle Regionalliga ended the Fighting Farmers with eight wins and two defeats (against the champions from Stuttgart and the Hanfrieds from Jena) as runner-up. The resulting relegation against the Erding Bulls was won in Erding with 22:38 and at home in front of about 1400 spectators with 37:27.

In the 2008 season, 4th place was achieved in the first year in the German Football League 2 , which entitles them to remain in the league. A total of 7 games were won against the Saarland Hurricanes , Stuttgart Silver Arrows , Königsbrunn Ants and Kirchdorf Wildcats , as well as in preparation against the Troisdorf Jets .

In the second season in GFL 2, the opponents of the Fighting Farmers are the following teams: From Baden-Württemberg the Rhein-Neckar Bandits and the Stuttgart Silver Arrows , from Bavaria the Franken Knights , the neighboring Darmstadt Diamonds and Wiesbaden Phantoms from Hesse, as well as the Kaiserslautern Pikes from Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland Hurricanes from Saarland. The license for the GFL 2 was checked by the responsible AFVD and granted to the Fighting Farmers for the 2009 season without conditions.

After turmoil between the board and the head coach at the beginning of the season, as a result of which both sides announced their resignation, after the 2009 season they were relegated to the Middle Regional League and remained until the current season.

Youth area

In addition to the 1st team, the Fighting Farmers Juniors team was founded in 2003, which was followed in 2005 by the Fighting Farmers Flag Junior Team. The youth work is currently reflected with around 40 active players who have come from their own youth team to the senior team of the Fighting Farmers. But the appointments to the selection teams also illustrate the successful youth work in recent years. Since 2015 there has also been a U17 youth in addition to the U19 youth. Since 2016, games have also started with a U15.

Club philosophy

In the area of club management and the coaching staff, the focus is on continuity. Most of the founding members are still involved in the club and support the further development of the club with their tasks in the management of the club and in the coaching staff of the individual teams according to the motto: Once a farmer, always a farmer! 'Hans the Farmer' has been a mascot of the games since 2007.

Appearance

The team colors changed over the years: While the jerseys and pants were initially green and gold, later a uniform green, after 20 years of football in the Westerwald, the appearance of the farmers is still characterized by the traditional green of the local forests and the golden ones Fields: Today's jerseys are green with white stripes on the sides, plus the helmet in gold with a black facemask. The snorting farmer with a hat, who accompanied the farmers as a logo for a long time, was replaced by the new farmer at the beginning of 2005: The dynamic process of the association should be reflected in the appearance.
