Montchaton is a former French community with 303 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Manche in the region Basse-Normandie . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Coutances and the Canton of Coutances (until 2015 Montmartin-sur-Mer ). The inhabitants are called Montchatonnais .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Orval and Montchaton were merged to form Commune nouvelle Orval sur Sienne in the equally new region of Normandy .

geography

Montchaton lies on the border with the Cotentin peninsula and about five kilometers southwest of Coutances on the Sienne .
