Orval is a former French community with 847 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Haute-Normandie . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Coutances and the Canton of Coutances (until 2015 Montmartin-sur-Mer ).

With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Orval and Montchaton were merged to form Commune nouvelle Orval sur Sienne in the equally new region of Normandy .

geography

Orval is on the border with the Cotentin Peninsula and about four kilometers southwest of Coutances at the confluence of the Sienne and Soulles .
