Montecito is a city in Santa Barbara County in the US state of California .

The city has 8965 inhabitants on an area of ​​24.2 km². Montecito is one of the wealthiest cities in the United States . It is located in the east of Santa Barbara , in a coastal plain south of the Santa Ynez Mountains . In the south, along the coast, there is a railway line from east to west as well as the coastal road El Camino Real , US Highway 101 . There are sandy beaches and tourist facilities on the coast. history

The Chumash Indians used to live in the area. The Spaniards established bases further west in the Presidio and St. Barbara in the 18th century . In the 19th century, highwaymen who attacked transports on the coastal road lived here. From the late 1860s, Italian settlers began to settle.

The Montecito Hot Springs Hotel was built on a large spring - it burned down in 1920.
