history

The original name of the parish that was under the rule of the Sessa was Albio and was in use until the 19th century. In the 15th century the Duke of Milan granted her a privilege and entrusted her with the maintenance of the road along the Tresa . After the conquest of the Ennetbirgische Vogtei by the Swiss, the community came to the territory of the Landvogtei Lauis ( Lugano ), a common rule of the Swiss Confederation , which in 1584 confirmed the former Milanese privileges of the community; in 1584 they exempted the inhabitants from all internal road tolls. She kept this status until the end of the Ancien Régime .

There was a border dispute with Luino that existed as early as 1604 and was settled in 1671. In the first half of the 15th century, the municipality had to provide the Duke of Milan with 13 men and war material. At that time it formed a municipality that was separate from the rest of the Lugano Valley and had an independent administration. At its head was a Podestà , which exercised civil and lower criminal justice. In the Giornico campaign, the Confederates committed some devastation in Monteggio.
