Bedigliora is a municipality in the Sessa district, in the Lugano district in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . The hamlets of Banco and Nerocco to the northwest and Beride to the southwest of the municipality belong to the municipality.

geography

The village is located in the Malcantone region on the southern slope of the Bedeia (Bedeglia) hill (684 m above sea level). The municipality contains the fractions Banco, Nerocco and Beride. Neighboring municipalities are: Astano , Sessa , Curio , Novaggio , Croglio and Pura .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1335 as Bedaliola. A dome grave on Monte Bedeglia is evidence of the early settlement of Bedigliora. In 1852 and 1886, prehistoric graves with a North Etruscan inscription were discovered in Banco, and in 1913 an ax from the Stone Age. Until 1599, Banco was the main town in the parish (later parish) Bedigliora. Bedigliora, Curio and Novaggio belonged to the castellanza , (Kastlanei), or Generalvicinanza of the same name. In 1628 Bedigliora was hit hard by the plague.

On June 16, 1929, the Società Pro Malcantone was founded in Bedigliora . The founding members were, as president, Felice Gambazzi ( Novaggio ), as well as Attilio Pelloni ( Breno TI ), Cornelio De Stefani ( Aranno ), Eugenio Schmidhauser ( Astano ), Andrea Selva ( Magliaso ), Silvio Cattaneo (Bedigliora), Giovanni Grandi ( Castelrotto ) , Nino Ezio Greppi ( Caslano ), Natale Marcolli ( Biogno ) and Antonio Pani ( Sessa ).

Attractions

The village image is classified in the inventory of protected sites in Switzerland (ISOS) as a site of national importance in Switzerland.

  • Parish church of San Rocco with frescoes (1612), the church building replaced an old chapel from the 16th century; it was inaugurated on March 16, 1644 and contains various frescoes: fresco with Santa Caterina e San Sebastiano , crucifixion , Madonna and Child and San Francesco
  • Church of Santa Maria Assunta in the Banco fraction with an imposing sundial
  • Oratory San Salvatore in the cemetery, with painting by Melchior Paul von Deschwanden
  • Plague Chapel della Barella
  • Different cup stones. in the district of Rivascia near Capèla de la Barèla (580 m above sea level)
