history

The team was formed in 1903 and in the ranks of the Wanderers were numerous players who had won the Stanley Cup in 1902 with the Montréal AAA . The Wanderers' fans were mostly English-speaking, while the French-speaking residents of Montreal were more on the side of the Montreal Canadiens .

From 1903 to 1905 they played in the Federal Amateur Hockey League . The first three Stanley Cup victories fall in the period from 1906 to 1909, in which one played in the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association . At that time the cup was also awarded more than once a year. Lester Patrick was a member of the Wanderers team at the time .

As a member of the National Hockey Association you could win the Stanley Cup again in 1910. When the NHL decided to re-establish the NHL, the Wanderers were one of the founding members in 1917.

The Wanderers' NHL team included Art Ross . The story of the Wanderers in the NHL is briefly told. After three losses and only one win in the first NHL season 1917/18 , the Wanderers' stadium, the Montreal Arena , fell victim to a fire. The other NHL teams were asked to help, but they did not respond. After the team could not play for the next two games, the team was disbanded.
