Moosbronn is a Mary - pilgrimage site in the northern Black Forest about 25 km south of Karlsruhe . Moosbronn belongs together with Mittelberg to the Gaggenau district of Freiolsheim .

Emergence

According to legend, near the source of the Moosalb in the village of Moosbronn, on a mighty old linden tree, there was a picture of Our Lady painted on wood. A farmhand who broke the brake chain of his wagon on a steep mountain slope called the Mother of God with Maria hilf in 1680 and the wagon stopped. Out of gratitude, he donated a small wooden chapel in 1683, which soon attracted pilgrims. In 1749 today's baroque pilgrimage church Maria Hilf was consecrated.

The small Moosbronn Castle ( castro Mosebrunnen ) mentioned in 1251 was lost in the 16th century.

In the census of 1910, the then Baden part of Moosbronn was listed as a separate district with its own police administration (just like Mittelberg) and 25 residents, separate from the then rural community of Freiolsheim.

Todays situation

Old boundary stone next to the pilgrimage church

There is parking at the Moosbronn cemetery, which many hikers use as a starting point for hikes on the Mahlberg . The historical border path Michelbach – Moosbronn – Bernbach shows with its boundary stones the former border between Baden and Württemberg . The border between the Grand Duchy of Baden and the Kingdom of Württemberg once ran right through the town (old boundary stone next to the pilgrimage church). At the same time this border was also denominational border. The Baden part was Catholic, the Württemberg part Protestant. As part of the municipal reform, the former Württemberg district was transferred from the Calw district to the Rastatt district with effect from April 1, 1972.
