This is a list of cities in Mexico .

By far the largest agglomeration in Mexico is Mexico City with a population of 20,116,842. This means that around 20 percent of the country's people live in the capital region. The federal district (Distrito Federal) has 8,851,080 inhabitants. Of these, 8,463,906 people live in urban areas (área urbana) and 257,010 in rural areas (área rural) (2005 census).

The following table shows the cities with a population of over 200,000, the results of the census results from March 12, 1990, November 5, 1995, February 14, 2000, October 17, 2005 and an estimate for June 1, 2014 based on the 2010 census as well as the higher-level administrative unit ( state ) to which the city belongs are listed. Mexico City forms its own federal district and does not belong to any state. The population figures refer to the respective urban settlement in the narrower sense - the geographical urban area - not to the city or municipality in the political sense.
