Morgan Arritola (born May 13, 1986 in Bend ) is an American cross-country skier and long-distance runner .

Career

Arritola appeared in January 2005 at a race of the Nor-Am Cup in Soldier Hollow for the first time in an international race. At the Junior World Championships in March of that year in Rovaniemi , she finished 25th in the double pursuit and 36th in the 5 kilometer individual race. After she had only participated in one Nor-Am Cup in Fairbanks at the beginning of winter 2005/06 , she was able to win silver over 15 and 10 km at the US Championships in Soldier Hollow. At the Junior World Championships in 2006 in Kranj , she was only able to occupy placements in the back of the field. In the 2006/07 season she took part in several Continental Cups, the Nor-Am Cup and the US SuperTour . She was able to occupy places in the top five several times. At the US Championships in January 2007 in Houghton , however, she missed a single-digit result. A month later she was used in the World Cup relay in Davos . She then took part in several Alpine Cup races , with a 13th place in Oberstdorf remaining her best result. In March 2007 she took part in the U23 World Cup in Tarvisio , where she finished 23rd and 25th. At the end of the season she competed in two races on the US Super Tour.

In the winter of 2007/08, Arritola almost only competed in races in North America. In mid-December, she was able to win a race on the US Super Tour in Soldier Hollow. At the US Short Distance Championships in January in Houghton, she finished third over 10 km. Shortly thereafter, she took part in a World Cup individual race for the first time in Canmore, Canada . With the 24th place she was able to win World Cup points straight away. She contested the only races of the season in Europe at the U23 World Championships in Mals , where she finished 11th and 18th. In early February 2008 she took part in the Canadian Championships in Whistler , but just missed the podium as fourth over 5 kilometers. At the end of the season, she won silver in both the double pursuit and over 30 km at the US endurance championships in Fairbanks.

After she had started again at several Continental Cup races at the beginning of the 2008/09 season, she took part in the World Cup in Whistler in mid-January, where she was able to win more World Cup points. At the following U23 World Cup in Praz de Lys , she was able to achieve a placement among the top 8 in both races in which she participated. After she started at another World Cup in Valdidentro , she took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec . After missing positions in the top thirty in the 10 km individual race and in the double pursuit, a 22nd place in the 30 km freestyle race became her best World Championship result. In the season she finished 14th and penultimate rank together with Kikkan Randall , Elizabeth Stephen and Caitlin Compton . After she started at the Alpine Cup races in Métabief after the World Championship , she was able to win silver over 30 km at the end of the season at the US championships, which were again held in Fairbanks.

In the 2009/10 season she competed regularly in the World Cup. Although she was able to finish 24th in a pre-season race over 10 kilometers in Beitostølen , a week later she was only 71 in the same place over the same distance at the World Cup opener. She also missed the points at all other World Cups at the start of the season. It was not until the beginning of February that she was able to win World Cup points again as 24th at the World Cup in Canmore. She then took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2011 , she finished 43rd in the 15 km pursuit race and 21st place in the 30 km mass start race.

Arritola is a distance specialist, in her few sprint appearances she usually ended up behind in the rear.

In 2013 and 2015 she won the US Mountain Running Championships.
