Life
The son of a medical councilor first visited the Lyceum in Karlsruhe and during this time he was already in contact with the botanist Alexander Braun , who interested him in this subject. From 1836 he studied medicine at the University of Heidelberg and from 1837 natural sciences in Bonn . His teachers in Bonn were Georg August Goldfuß , Ludolph Christian Treviranus and Johann Jacob Nöggerath . After his doctorate as Dr. phil. in Bonn he switched to the University of Berlin , where he completed his habilitation. From 1843 he taught in Bonn as a private lecturer. In the same year he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
In 1846 he was appointed professor of botany and zoology at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic as the successor to Alexander Braun . At the same time he succeeded Braun as head of the Grand Ducal Natural History Cabinet and the Botanical Garden and the Grand Ducal Court Garden in Karlsruhe. He was also a librarian at the Grand Ducal Court and State Library for several years .
In addition to teaching and administrative work, Seubert has also written numerous writings. The " Flora azorica " appeared in 1844 , in which he worked up the herbaria of Christian Ferdinand Friedrich Hochstetter and his son Carl Hochstetter . He also worked on a number of plant families in the " Flora brasiliensis " published by Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius . Including the Alismataceae , Amaryllidaceae , Butomaceae and Liliaceae . He also wrote a " textbook on plant science ", which appeared in five editions. In 1863 his " Exkursionsflora für das Großherzogthum Baden " was published, in 1868 another one for south-west Germany and in 1869 one for central and north Germany.
The funeral took place with great public participation. A son of Seubert was a founding philistine of the then Karlsruhe Forestry Association Hubertia . The Corps and the Polytechnic Association honored him with wreaths.
