Moritz Lorge

Moritz Lorge (born October 6, 1874 in Harmuthsachsen ; died 1948 in New York ) was a German teacher and rabbi .

Life

After attending school in Harmuthsachsen, Moritz Lorge was a student at the Israelite Preparatory School in Burgpreppach . From 1892 to 1892 he studied at the Israelite teacher training college in Kassel . Between 1900 and 1904 he was a teacher in Wolfenbüttel for a short time , then a teacher and preacher in Petershagen and a teacher in Hamm .

From 1904 he studied in Berlin and Tübingen, where he in 1907, Dr. phil. received his doctorate. From 1908 to 1933 he was senior teacher and teacher for religion, German and history at the secondary school for girls in Mainz .

In 1935 Moritz Lorge became district rabbi in Bad Sobernheim . In 1939 he emigrated to the USA , where he lectured and taught on the history of the Jews in Germany and the USA in Cincinnati and New York in the following years .

Moritz Lorge was married to Hedwig geb. Steinweg. The son Ernst Mordechai Lorge, who also became a rabbi, emerged from the marriage. Moritz Lorge died in New York in 1948.
