Moritz Rott
Moritz Rott , actually Moritz Rosenberg (born September 17, 1796 in Prague , † March 11, 1867 in Berlin ) was a theater actor - primarily a comedic virtuoso and hero actor - and a theater director.
Life
Rott was the son of a businessman and, according to his family's wishes, should study medicine. He soon gave up his studies at Charles University and now sought to earn his living in the bookkeeping of a Prague company.
After first appearances with an amateur group, Rott tried to succeed as an actor. He went to Vienna to see Adolf Bäuerle , through whom he also got to know the court actor Koch and the writer Ferdinand Raimund .
Since 1817 at the Josefstädter Theater Vienna , he later played in Lemberg , Olmütz , Linz and Leipzig , in 1821 again at the Theater an der Wien , where he also directed from 1824. In 1826 he had guest appearances at the Berlin court theater, then again in Vienna (also at the Burgtheater ) and in 1829 in Leipzig at the court theater . In 1832 he was committed to the Berlin court theater . After vocal problems had set in, he retired in 1856. For a few years he still took on individual commitments and went on various guest tours, but then lived secluded in his adopted home in Berlin.
He was also active as a dramatic poet.
Moritz Rott died after a long suffering on March 11, 1867 at the age of 70 in Berlin. He was buried in Trinity Cemetery I in front of Hallesches Tor . The grave has not been preserved.
