Morning Musume ( Japanese モ ー ニ ン グ 娘 mōningu musume , about morning girl ), currently under the name Morning Musume '20 (pronounced two-zero ), is a J-Pop girl group founded in 1997 with a constantly changing line-up. The group is one of the most successful in Japan.
Morning Musume is part of Hello! Project , an association of female occupied pop groups and solo artists of all Tsunku , the ex-singer of Sharan Q , are produced. Most of the new girls were not older than 15 years and were selected at the beginning in the casting show "Asayan", later in their own show Hello! Morning . Since several members were usually added at the same time, the respective newcomers were divided into generations, which originally consisted mostly of three or four members.
Under the umbrella of Hello! Project , members of the group also formed sub-groups (e.g. Pucchi Moni , Tanpopo , Mini-Moni ) or are part of independent groups (e.g. Country Musume, Biyūden). Some of the dropped out members stayed as solo artists in Hello! Project (e.g. Miki Fujimoto ), but at the beginning of 2009 all ex-members from Hello! Project resigned.
history
In 1997 the Japanese producer Tsunku was looking for a rock singer. Michiyo Heike won the casting for the Japanese show “Asayan” . However, their first singles were not as successful as hoped, and so Tsunku produced the single "Ai no Tane" with five other finalists in the casting. When the song sold 50,000 times within a week, Tsunku founded the group Morning Musume in January 1998, the original line-up consisting of Yuko Nakazawa ( 中 澤 裕子 ), Kaori Iida ( 飯 田 圭 織 ), Aya Ishiguro ( 石 黒 彩 ), Natsumi Abe ( 安 倍 な つ み ) and Asuka Fukuda ( 福田 明日香 ). At the end of January 1998, the group released their first single, "Morning Coffee", which made it to number 6 on the Japanese pop charts.
Shortly after the release of the first single, the group was expanded to include the second generation, which consisted of Kei Yasuda ( 保 田 圭 ), Mari Yaguchi ( 矢 口 真 里 ) and Sayaka Ichii ( 市井 紗 耶 香 ). In May Morning Musume's second single “Summer Night Town” reached number 4 and the first album “First Time”, which was released in July, also reached number 4 on the album charts. In September Morning Musume hit with their third single “Daite! Hold on me ”first hit the singles charts. The first Morning Musume subgroup emerged when Aya Ishiguro, Kaori Iida and Mari Yaguchi appeared as "Tanpopo" ( dandelion ). This was the basis for the Hello! Project emerged. At the same time, Yuko Nakazawa began a solo career on the side.
Asuka Fukuda, the youngest member at the age of 13, left Morning Musume in January. The third generation casting winner, Maki Gotō ( 後 藤真 希 , also 13 years old), joined shortly afterwards. The seventh single, "Love Machine" sold over a million copies and was # 1 for three weeks. It is Morning Musume's most successful hit to date. In the same year, the second subgroup Pucchi Moni , consisting of Kei Yasuda, Sayaka Ichii and Maki Goto, was created.
Aya Ishiguro, the second singer of the original five-piece lineup, left the project in January. In April, after further castings, the new members of the fourth generation Rika Ishikawa ( 石川 梨 華 ), Hitomi Yoshizawa ( 吉澤 ひ と み ), Nozomi Tsuji ( 辻 希 美 ) and Ai Kago ( 加 護 亜 依 ) joined them. In the summer of that year, Sayaka Ichii left the group after almost two years.
Mini-Moni, one of the most popular Morning Musume subgroups, was founded especially for children . In May Yuko Nakazawa left the group, so that only Natsumi Abe and Kaori Iida were left of the original cast. After renewed auditions, Ai Takahashi (高橋 愛), Asami Konno (紺 野 あ さ 美), Makoto Ogawa (小川 麻 琴) and Risa Niigaki (新 垣 里 沙) joined in August as the fifth generation .
In April, Kei Yasuda left the group after Maki Goto took this step in 2002. In January 2004, the sixth generation were the newcomers Eri Kamei (亀 里 絵 里), Michishige Sayumi (道 重 さ ゆ み) and Reina Tanaka (田中 れ な), as well as the solo singer Miki Fujimoto (藤 本 美 貴),> who was already in the castings for the 4th Generation took part and is therefore ahead of the members of the 5th generation in the internal ranking list. Due to the loss and the new addition, Miki Fujimoto took over the main vocals together with Ai Takahashi. In January 2004, the penultimate original member, Natsumi Abe, left the group, and in August 2004 Ai Kago and Nozomi Tsuji started their own business as group "W". Kaori Iida retired in January 2005 as the last member of the original cast after seven years. In mid-2005, Mari Yaguchi had to leave after Friday magazine exposed her relationship with an actor. Then Rika Ishikawa should have taken over the leadership, but since she left the group, Hitomi Yoshizawa took over the leadership.
In May 2005, the seventh generation Koharu Kusumi (久住 小春) was added. Asami Konno and Makoto Ogawa, from the 5th generation, left the group in summer 2006. Asami Konno left the music business completely in order to study at a university, but later came to Hello! Project back.
In late 2006, Aika Mitsui (光 井 愛 佳) became a member of Morning Musume. At Hitomi Yoshizawa's farewell concert in March 2007, two Chinese women were introduced, Qian Lin (Linlin, リ ン リ ン) and Li Chun (Junjun, ジ ュ ン ジ ュ ン). Tsunku called them a kind of exchange student. Hitomi Yoshizawa, who left the group on May 6, 2007, continued to work as an entertainer in the Hello! Project. In their place, Miki Fujimoto took over the lead, while Ai Takahashi filled the gap in the co-lead. On June 1, 2007, Fujimoto left the group after a few days earlier the "Friday" magazine, which had already caused the end of Mari Yaguchi at Morning Musume, revealed her relationship with the comedian Tomoharu Shōji. Ai Takahashi became the new leader and Risa Niigaki became the subleader. In 2008 Morning Musume made its first appearance outside of Japan in Taiwan, and their single "Resonant Blue" was the best-selling single from Hello! Projects 2008. In August, Morning Musume performed with Cinderella - The Musical in Takarazuka. 2008 was the first year that the cast of the group remained unchanged. On March 31, 2009, all members of the Hello Project Elder Club (including Nozomi Tsuji, who was on maternity leave at the time) exited the Hello! Project to either devote yourself to other tasks or to withdraw from the music business entirely. They were welcomed by the fans and current members of Hello! On February 1st with a big concert in the Yokohama Arena. Projects adopted. Yuko Nakazawa officially handed over her leadership position of the Hello! Project to Ai Takahashi, who is now the oldest member of the same. In August, Morning Musume released their 40th single Nanchatte Renai, the 7th single with the same line-up. With around 70,000 CDs sold, it was the most successful single in almost 4 years. Morning Musume's 41st single "Kimagure Princess" was released in October. After the start of their “Morning Musume's 2009 Fall Tour: Nine Smile” tour, it was announced that Kusumi Koharu's Morning Musume and the Hello! Project is left. Their farewell concert took place on December 6, 2009 in Tokyo. On February 10, 2010 her 42nd single "Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai" was released, and on March 17, 2010 her 10th album "10 My Me" was released. Her 43rd single "Seishun Collection" was released on June 9th. On August 8, it was surprisingly announced that Eri Kamei , Junjun and Linlin would leave the group after the concert tour in autumn. Junjun and Linlin are expected to return to China, while Eri Kamei is expected to drop out due to a skin condition. At the same time it was announced that there will be a new casting, which means that the group will get new members again. In November the single "Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game" was released.
The casting for the 9th generation started on September 21, 2010, five girls made it to the final round. The winners were announced at the "H! P 2011 Winter Concert" on January 2nd, 2011. After the ninth generation was introduced, it was announced at the Hello! Project concert on January 9th that Ai Takahashi would be leaving Morning Musume at the end of the autumn tour.
The tenth generation, consisting of Masaki Satō, Haruka Kudō, Ayumi Ishida and Haruna Iikubo, was introduced on September 29, the first day of the autumn tour and Ai Takahashi's final tour, bringing the membership to 12. The following day, September 30th, the last concert with Ai Takahashi took place. Until then she had been in the group for over 10 years, which was the longest membership time of a member. She passed this task on to Risa Niigaki, who was now the last member of the fifth generation and at the same time the oldest. The first song with the tenth generation, "Pyocopyoco Ultra," was released on January 25, 2012. The single reached number 3 in the charts , but was Morning Musume's worst-selling single with 34,050 CDs sold. In February, Risa Niigaki announced that she was leaving Morning Musume. Their last concert took place on May 18, 2012 and was part of Morning Musume's spring tour 2012. Sayumi Michishige then took over the direction . The last single with Risa Niigaki "Renai Hunter" was released on April 11, 2012. On the first day the single could be sold a good 17,000 times and reached number 3 in the daily charts. This position was held for the next two days. On April 4, 2012 it was surprisingly announced that Aika Mitsui and Risa Niigaki were leaving Morning Musume. She injured her ankle in the spring of 2011 and has not been able to actively participate in concerts since then. Similar to Eri Kamei in 2010, she gets out so that her ankle could recover from the injury. On May 18, 2012 Risa Niigaki and Aika Mitsui gave their last concert, Sayumi Michishige became the new leader of the group. At the same time, the auditions for the eleventh generation were announced and started. 2012 was an anniversary year for the group, they celebrated their 15th birthday and their 50th single, "One Two Three / The Matenrou Show", was released on July 4th. With around 110,000 units sold in total, including 100,000 in the first week of sales, it was the most successful single since “Go Girl 'Koi no Victory'” from 2003 and “Koko ni Iruzee!” From 2002. On November 18, 2012 it was announced that Tanaka Reina will leave the group and the Hello! Project after the spring tour 2013 and continue her career with her own band. On January 23, 2013, Morning Musume released their 52nd single (Oda's debut) with "Help me !!" It stayed at number 1 on the Oricon charts for a week (the last time this was the case with "Shouganai Yume Oibito") and sold over 100,000 times in the first two weeks. On May 21, 2013, at Reina Tanaka's graduation concert, it was announced that Morning Musume will have two subleaders for the first time in the group's history: Mizuki Fukumura from the 9th generation and Haruna Iikubo from the 10th generation. The 54th single "Wagamama Ki no Mama Ai no Joke / Ai no Gundan" was released on August 28, 2013 and reached first place in the charts. This was the third number one hit in a row. This was last seen with single No. 14, “Souda! We're Alive ”, which eleven years earlier also reached number 1 in the charts as the third title in a row. In addition, with around 156,000 units sold, the single was the most successful single since “Koko ni Iruzee!”, Which was also released in 2002.
On December 6, 2013, Tsunku announced in a blog post that the group would join “Morning Musume. '14 ”, spoken of will call Morning Musume One Four . The number at the end of the name should be adjusted annually so that it can be seen in which year a single was released. However, he also stated that he might reject this idea if it does not resonate with the fans.
The year 2014, now under the name Morning Musume. '14 , started with the announcement of a collaboration with the mobile communications brand au of the company KDDI . The group will meet with the comedy group "Morisanchū" in some commercials play. There they appear under the name "Mori Musume." Another advertising deal was announced at the end of May. We are looking for girls between the ages of 10 and 17 who enjoy singing. It is planned that the winners of the casting will not officially join the group until 2015.
After the fourth No. 1 hit in a row with the 55th single, which was a novelty in the history of the group, this was achieved with the 56th single, “Toki wo Koe Sora wo Koe / Password is 0 ”, again and has thus achieved the fifth No. 1 position in a row.
During the spring tour 2014 it was announced that Sayumi Michishige would leave the group after eleven years after the autumn tour in the same year.
