List of grape varieties

Moscato di Terracina is a white wine - grape variety with a subtle nutmeg bouquet . The grape variety, which was almost extinct in the middle of the 20th century, was still very popular 50 years earlier and was found on several thousand hectares. Until 1971 it was part of the French Muscat de Rivesaltes . It was also a popular table grape. It is (as of 2016) the main component of the DOC wine of the same name, Moscato di Terracina . In 2000, 292 hectares of vineyards were collected.

Moscato di Terracina was often confused with Muscat d'Alexandrie because of its great similarity . So far, however, no relationship between the two varieties has been discovered.

The wines are mostly aromatic (dried rose petals, tropical fruits and apricots).

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

  • The shoot tip is open. It is slightly woolly hairy with a slightly reddish-bronze tinge. The bronze-colored young leaves are slightly hairy and shiny.
  • The large, thick leaves are rounded (usually longer than wide), five-lobed and clearly indented. The stalk bay is closed like a lyre. The sheet is serrated to a point. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is slightly blistered.
  • The cylindrical to cylindrical grape is shouldered, medium-sized and has dense berries. The round berries are medium-sized and whitish in color. The skin of the berry is thick. The aroma of the juicy berry is fine and has a neutral bouquet with a barely pronounced nutmeg taste.

Maturity: late - if the wine is not sufficiently mature, the wines contain less extract, are thin and have a strong acidity.
