Mountain Brook is an American city in Jefferson County , Alabama and a suburb of Birmingham . According to calculations by the Census Bureau for 2005, the city had 20,821 inhabitants.

Mountain Brooks geographic coordinates are 33 ° 29 ′ N , 86 ° 44 ′ W (33.486972, −86.740465). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has an area of 31.7 km², all of which is land.
Mountain Brook was originally laid out in 1929 by Robert Jemison, who designed it as a spacious residential area. Boston landscape architect Warren H. Manning's plans included extensive lots on winding roads and concentrated business in three centers, English Village, Mountain Brook Village and Crestline Village.
Demographics
At the time of the United States Census 2000, 20,640 people lived in the city. The population density was 649.9 people per km ². There were 8,268 housing units at an average of 260.8 per km ². The Mountain Brooks population was 98.64% White , 0.31% Black or African Americans , 0.04% Native Americans , 0.65% Asians , 0.02% Pacific Islanders , 0.12% said others Belonging to races , 0.22% named two or more races. 0.58% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
The residents of Mountain Brooks distributed to 7,998 households out of which 36.7% were living in children under 18 years of age. 68.0% of households were married, 5.5% had a female head of household without a husband, and 25.3% did not form families. 22.7% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 9.9% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.05. The urban population was divided between 28.3% minors, 4.1% 18–24 year olds, 25.3% 25–44 year olds, 25.8% 45–64 year olds and 16.4% aged 65 and over or more. The median age was 41 years. City administration
Mountain Brooks City Council is based on a city council, mayor and city manager model. The city council consists of five generally elected members and decides on most issues. He appoints the chief of police and the head of the fire department. The mayor is elected every four years. Together with the mayor, the city council appoints the city manager. Its tasks are general administration issues.
education
The city has a separate school system that consists of four elementary schools (Mountain Brook Elementary, Cherokee Bend Elementary, Brookwood Forest Elementary, and Crestline Elementary School), Mountain Brook Junior High School, and Mountain Brook High School.

Mountain Brook is the hometown of television series actors Wayne Rogers ( M * A * S * H ), Kate Jackson ( Charlie's Angels ) and Courteney Cox ( Friends ), of Bart Starr , as well as high school graduate Natalee Holloway , who during of her vacation in Aruba in 2005 disappeared without a trace and attracted worldwide attention.
