Mucaba is a city in Angola , in southwestern Africa .

history

Mucaba became known in connection with the beginning of the Portuguese colonial war in Angola. The independence movement UPA ( União das Populações de Angola , from 1962 FNLA ) switched to armed struggle on March 15, 1961 and surprised the Portuguese authorities and settlers alike. In Mucaba, 20 European settlers and five blacks managed to withstand a siege by UPA fighters for about a month, until Portuguese units reached the place in late April and ended the siege. The incident was propagandistically spread as the first heroic deed on the Portuguese side. A large number of streets in Portugal were subsequently named after the "Heroes of Mucaba" ( Port. Heróis de Mucaba ).

On September 1, 1971, Mucaba was elevated to a small town ( Vila ) and has since been the seat of an independent district.

administration

Mucaba is the seat of a district of the same name ( Município ) in the province of Uíge . The district has 86,717 inhabitants (extrapolated estimate 2014). From now on, the 2014 census should provide reliable population data.

Two communities (Comunas) with a total of 52 villages form the Mucaba district:

Economy and Transport

Since 2011 Mucaba has paved road connections in the district and with the provincial capital Uíge. To this end, a new central coffee market was set up in 2011. In addition, peanuts, cassava , beans, corn, sweet potatoes , avocado , bananas, sugar cane and vegetables are grown in the district.

Investments in the hotel and tourism sector have also been made in Mucaba since 2010,

In 2012 Mucaba also received a number of new buildings, including a municipal market hall, in addition to a hospital, schools and housing projects, etc. a. A thermal power plant has also gone into operation in the district.
