Mujtaba Faiz (born November 21, 1989 in Kabul ) is a former Afghan football player and current coach . He is the head coach of the Afghan U-23 national team and the assistant coach of the Afghan first division club Shaheen Asmayee .

Player career

Club career

Faiz began his career at Feruzi FC in what was then the Afghanistan Premier League (now: Kabul Premier League ). For the first season of the nationwide Afghan Premier League , he was hired by Shaheen Asmayee . In his first season he came to three missions and was able to score a goal, but retired with the team in the preliminary round. Faiz also missed the first own goal in APL history in the game against De Spinghar Bazan (0-1) when his rescue attempt landed in his own goal in the 54th minute in front of the penalty area.

Nevertheless, he aroused the interest of other foreign clubs, and so he moved to Air India FC in the I-League for the 2012/13 season . He became the second Afghan player to move to the Indian league after Zohib Islam Amiri and before Belal Arezou . However, the defender was not used, and his club was relegated at the end of the season as the penultimate. For the 2013 season, Faiz moved back to Shaheen Asmayee in the Afghan Premier League . Until 2015 he was twice champion and once runner-up. The final defeat against De Spinghar Bazan (3: 4 n.E.) on October 2, 2015 was also his last game as an active player; Faiz then announced the end of his career.

National team

The defender made his debut for the Afghan national team on November 17, 2010 in the 1-0 defeat by Tajikistan . He took part with the national team in the South Asian Championships in 2011 and 2013 ; In 2013 they became South Asian champions after beating India 2-0 in the final. Faiz also took part in the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 , where they finished fourth. He played his last game for the national team on February 6, 2015, when he lost 2-1 to Pakistan .

Coaching career

From the 2016 season Faiz assisted the head coach Boir Igamberdiev at his former club Shaheen Asmayee. He has been the head coach of his country's U-23 national team since 2018 . Faiz looked after the team during the qualification for the U-23 Asian Cup , in which the qualification failed.
