The Municipio Ayopaya (also: Villa de Independencia ) is a district in the Cochabamba department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Municipio Ayopaya is one of three Municipios of the Ayopaya Province . It is bordered by the La Paz department to the north and west, the Tapacarí province to the south , and the Morochata municipality to the east .

The municipality comprises 168 localities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is Independencia (Ayopaya) with 1,751 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the central part of the municipality.

The municipality of Ayopaya is located between the Cordillera Mazo Cruz and the Cordillera del Tunari , a north-western section of the Cordillera Oriental . The climate is a typical daytime climate , in which the temperature fluctuations between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.
