The municipality of Cochabamba is a district in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The municipality of Cochabamba is the only municipality in the province of Cercado . It is bordered by the province of Quillacollo to the west, the province of Capinota to the south, the province of Esteban Arce to the southeast , and the province of Chapare to the east .
The central place of the municipality is Cochabamba with 516,683 inhabitants (2001 census) .

The municipality of Cochabamba is located on the plateau of Cochabamba in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central and the Bolivian lowlands. The region's climate is a subtropical mountain climate, which is characterized more by fluctuations in precipitation than by temperature differences over the course of the year .
The annual precipitation is 450 mm (see climate diagram) and has a clear dry season from April to October.
