Murillo is a town in the Santa Cruz Department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The village of Murillo is located in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) San Pedro in the province of Obispo Santistevan . The place is located at an altitude of 213 m in the wetland between the Río Piraí and Río Grande . The municipality of San Pedro with about 10,000 inhabitants is a colonization area and is used intensively for agriculture.

Murillo is located in the tropical humid climate in front of the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental . The region has only been opened up in the last few decades and was covered by subtropical rainforest before colonization , but is now mostly cultivated land .

From the center of Santa Cruz the paved highway Ruta 4 leads 57 kilometers north to Montero , from there the Ruta 10 further north via General Saavedra , Mineros and Fernández Alonso to San Pedro and on via Murillo to Hardeman , San Juan del Piraí and Canandoa .

Due to the immigration of indigenous populations from the Altiplano , which has been promoted by politics since the 1960s , the region has a not inconsiderable proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of San Pedro 54.9 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
